Introducing Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching!

Posted by admin - May 10th, 2012

Tranquiliti Wellness Center is extremely excited to announce our Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching workshop series! Ki-Hara is a form of flexibility, strength training, and core work that you’ve probably never seen before. During Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching, the muscles stretched are being contracted and lengthened at the same time, thus creating a unique workout that will leave you feeling refreshed.

This new modality of training dynamically stretches and strengthens the entire body through concentric and eccentric movements. This technique helps to queue up muscles to begin working together and to stimulate the muscles that are no longer working at their optimal capacity.

Ki-Hara is a very safe form of flexibility training due to the fact that the muscles can only be taken through a range of motion if they have the ability to produce the force necessary to complete the move. Following the workout, you will feel an instant release of tension as well as a burst of energy as the muscles stretched are stripped of toxins and lactic acid and are replenished with fresh blood and oxygen.

Tranquiliti Wellness Center’s instructor Tammy Estrada will be offering a Ki-Hara Upper Body Stretching introductory workshop on Monday, May 14th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. For more information, including workshop details, class prices, and other specialty classes, please call Tranquiliti Wellness Center today at (407)448-0244.

Meditation for the Body

Posted by admin - April 26th, 2012

Over the years, the practice of meditation has gained a fairly large following. Those who meditate regularly find that it eases their chronic pain and stress, improves heart health, boosts mood and immunity, and can resolve pregnancy problems.

According to cardiologist Herbert Benson—known for over three decades of research in the health effects of meditation—any condition that is caused or worsened by stress can be alleviated through regular meditation. The relaxation response from meditation helps to lower blood pressure and improves heart rate, allows for calmer breathing, and engages brain waves.

In scientific studies, meditation has been shown to increase activity in areas of the brain that control metabolism and heart rate. Meditation also produces long-lasting changes in the brain activity of areas associated with attention, working memory, learning, and conscious perception.

In regards to heart heath, regular practice of meditation has been show to significantly help high blood pressure over the long term. In another study, teenagers who meditated for fifteen minutes twice a day for four months were able to lower their blood pressure by a few points.

For women, regular meditation can help greatly. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), infertility problems, and even breastfeeding can be improved by meditation. In fact, one study revealed that PMS symptoms subsided by 58% when the women involved meditated. Hot flashes were less intense among meditating women, and women struggling with infertility had much less anxiety, depression, and fatigue following a 10-week meditation program. An astonishing 34% of these women became pregnant within six months!

Benson says that “any practice that can evoke the relaxation response is beneficial, whether it be meditation, yoga, breathing, or repetitive prayer.” The relaxation response is the key to improving your health, both physically and emotionally. How to Live a Happier Lifestyle

Posted by admin - March 23rd, 2012

You already know that you can take measures to live a healthier lifestyle, such as by taking Pilates classes at Tranquiliti Wellness Center, but did you know that you can also take steps to live a happier lifestyle?

Only 10 percent of the variation in people’s reports of happiness can be explained by differences in their circumstances (Source: Mayo Clinic). Many people believe that happiness comes from being born with wealth or beauty or from having a stress-free lifestyle, but the reality is simply that these things don’t bring lasting happiness.

Happiness is instead the culmination of your life choices. People who are genuinely happy have built their life on the following conditions: devoting time to family and friends, appreciating what they have, maintaining an optimistic outlook, feeling a sense of purpose, and living in the moment.

The first step to living a happier life is to invest in close bonds with family and peers. Surround yourself with people who are themselves genuinely happy. Friends and family help you celebrate life’s successes and will support you in difficult times.

Express gratitude often. It is easy to travel through everyday life without recognizing how good you really have it. Make a commitment to practice gratitude by identifying at least one thing that enriches your life daily. When you find yourself having an ungrateful thought, counteract by having a grateful one. Let gratitude be the last thought you have before you go to sleep and the first thought you have upon waking in the morning.

Develop the habit of seeing the positive side of everyday occurrences. Start recognizing negative thoughts as soon as you have them, and find a new way to look at the situation.

Find your purpose. People who strive to meet long-term goals tend to be happier than those who don’t have any aspirations. Having a goal also provides a sense of purpose, enforces self-esteem, and brings people together.

Live in the moment. Don’t postpone joy by waiting for a day when your life is less busy or less stressful, because that day may never come. Instead, look for opportunities to savor the small pleasures of everyday life. As the old saying goes, take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Incorporating the above steps into your everyday life is the first step towards living a happier—and thus healthier—lifestyle. To learn how Tranquiliti Wellness Center can help you work towards an improved lifestyle through spiritual life and wellness coaching, please give us a call today at (407)448-0244.

Sneak Exercise into Your Day

Posted by admin - March 8th, 2012

Sneaking healthy habits into your daily life may actually be easier than you think. Nicknamed the “Stealth Movement”, these are a few tips to create a healthier lifestyle. From your morning shower to the evening news, there are at least 2,400 ways to sneak healthy activities into daily living! Over time, the following tips can make a big difference in your lifestyle.

In order to improve nutrition, consider buying whole foods to use in place of processed foods whenever possible. Reject food and drinks that are made with corn syrup, and consider starting each dinner with a mixed green salad. Not only will the salad fill you up and reduce your appetite for foods with higher calories, but will count for a serving of vegetables.

If you are looking to improve physical fitness, try doing a squat every time you pick something up. When you’re stopped at a traffic light, tighten your thighs and release as many times as you can. This will firm leg muscles and aid in improving blood flow. Whenever you’re standing in a line, lift one foot just slightly off the ground and alternate feet every few minutes. This will place extra stress on your opposing foot, ankle, calf, and thigh and will help tone and firm muscles.

In regards to stress control, try giving your partner a hug every day before work. When you can, have a good cry. Crying can actually boost your immune system, reduce levels of stress hormones, eliminate depression, and help you think more clearly. Twice a day, take time away to breathe deeply for three-to-five minutes.

If you wish to improve your quality of sleep, consider sprinkling just-washed sheets and pillowcases with lavender water. Lavender has been shown to promote relaxation, which can lead to better sleep. You could also buy a new pillow. Pillows with an indent in the center can enhance sleep quality and reduce neck pain. Lastly, eat a handful of walnuts before bed. You’ll be giving yourself a boost of fiber and essential fatty acids along with tryptophan, a natural sleep-inducer.

To conclude, if you are looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle but do not necessarily have the time to do so, try the above tips. They take very little time out of your day, and in conjunction with each other, can lead to healthier choices for a healthier life. At Tranquiliti Wellness Center, we are dedicated to promoting healthier lifestyles through smarter choices. What is Iridology?

Posted by admin - February 21st, 2012

You may have heard of iridology, but what is it? Iridology has been defined as an alternative medicine technique in which patterns, colors, and other characteristics of the iris can be examined to determine information about a patient’s health. While this science was proposed by Phillippus Meyeus in Chiromatica Medica over three hundred years ago, this practice is still going strong.

Practitioners utilize iris charts that allow them to compare their patient observations to a standardized visual aid. The iris chart is divided into various zones—approximately 90—that correspond to specific parts of the human body. For example, the zone that corresponds to the kidney is located in the lower part of the iris. According to iridologists, details in the iris reflect changes in the tissue of the corresponding body organs; when there is an abnormality in a certain zone of the iris, there is a chance that the corresponding part of the body could be overactive, inflamed, or distressed.

Bernard Jensen, a prominent iridologist, claims, “Nerve fibers in the iris respond to changes in body tissues by manifesting a reflex physiology that corresponds to specific tissue changes and locations.” For example, acute inflammatory, chronic inflammation, and catarrhal signs may indicate involvement, maintenance, or healing of corresponding distant tissues.

In Canada and the United States, numerous organizations offer certification courses in iridology. Tranquiliti Wellness Center in Windermere also occasionally offers classes about iridology. If you are interested in learning more, or want to learn how the Tranquiliti Wellness Center can help optimize your Orlando lifestyle, please call us today at (407)488-0244.

Give Reflexology A Try!

Posted by admin - February 10th, 2012

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that relate to every organ, gland, and system of the body. Reflexology, like massage therapy, is a non-invasive way of helping the body to heal itself by increasing blood flow to targeted areas. Studies show that reflexology can increase the blood flow to the brain, kidneys and intestines. It can also reduce pain in targeted areas through improved circulation and pressure points.

Reflexology involves the use of alternating pressure applied to reflexes within reflex maps of the body located on the feet, hands and outer ears. Massaging each area can stimulate the flow of energy, blood, nutrients, and nerve impulses to the corresponding body zone, relieving ailments in that zone.

Our goal at Tranquiliti Wellness Center is to promote wellness and to help you feel the best you can. This is why we offer reflexology at our yoga and pilates studio in Windermere. We have even expanded our facility so that we can offer more services to you! We are still located upstairs at 503 Main Street in Downtown Windermere, but we have expanded to the downstairs as well. We look forward to seeing you at our new facility!

Massage Therapy

Posted by admin - January 25th, 2012

Massage therapy has many benefits – it can relieve pain, promote healing, reduce stress, temporarily lower blood pressure, and provide emotional release. Massage therapy, as well as Reiki, can also be used to treat many medical conditions. During a massage therapy session, your massage therapist will cater to your personal needs in order to treat your specific condition.

Depending on the reason for your visit, your massage therapist will target different areas of the body such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, organs, and connective tissue. To help promote healing in the affected area, your massage therapist may apply pressure, heat, and/or movement to the specific area in order to increase blood flow and allow your body to repair that area.

During a massage therapy session, your massage therapist will work both the superficial and the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue in the affected area of your body. They will use various techniques to massage with their hands, fingers, elbows, feet, knees, or even their forearm. Traditionally, massages are given with the client lying on a massage table, sitting in a massage chair, or lying on a mat on the floor.

Don’t forget, we have a massage therapist at Tranquiliti Wellness Center that wants to help you get rid of undesirable pain and soreness in your body. Give us a call today at 407-448-0244 to schedule your massage therapy appointment!

Reiki and Energy Healing in Orlando

Posted by admin - November 14th, 2011

Reiki is a technique that promotes healing by channeling energy through the body. Energy healing is a non invasive, gentle healing art that can help to put your body’s energy flow back into balance. Your body’s natural energy channels become blocked due to the physical and emotional stress of everyday life.

To balance your energy, an energy shift occurs to release stagnant energy and to realign your mind, body, and spirit as they should be. A deep sense of relaxation and a general sense of well-being should occur. Energy healing eases pain, anxiety, and stress related symptoms, and boosts immunity.

At Tranquiliti Wellness Center, we offer Spiritual Reiki retreats. Our Spiritual Reiki retreats demonstrate the healing benefits of Reiki that can be used not only for yourself, but also for others. By attending a Spiritual Reiki retreat at our Orlando yoga and wellness center, you will learn how to keep the energy flow in your body balanced, reduced stress, and focus on your spirituality.

Anne Van Allen, the owner of Tranquiliti Wellness Center, is an Energy Balancing Master & Teacher who can help you focus your mind, body & spirit.
